Paramore – 5th Studio Album

Paramore Hayley Taylor

In April 2013, Paramore released their self-titled 4th studio album, the first to be released as a trio without founding members Zac and Josh Farro. Paramore proved that the band still had it, and it launched the hit singles “Now,” “Still Into You,” and “Ain’t It Fun.” After a couple of successful tours, in late 2014 Paramore re-released the album with unheard bonus tracks and live recordings, as well as a new duet version of “Hate To See Your Heart Break.” The era finally ended with a short “Writing The Future” tour in 2015, and with that, the band was ready to start recording a new album.

Sadly, 2015 closed with the departure of bassist Jeremy Davis, leaving Paramore smaller than ever. The duo now includes only singer Hayley Williams and guitarist Taylor York. The two have begun writing and recording as of March 2016, and they will likely spend most of the year getting the new music together. Although the album could be out by the end of the year, it may be 2017 before we get to hear Paramore’s 5th album.

Ending the Self-Titled Era: Writing The Future

The self-titled era ended with one final tour in 2015, shortly after the November 2014 re-release of Paramore and the duet version of “Hate To See Your Heart Break.”  The “Writing The Future” tour event was announced January 22, 2015 along with this note from the band:

It feels right to bring the Self-Titled era to a close. We’ve had a very personal and hugely triumphant journey with this one. What wouldn’t feel right is saying goodbye to this time in the band’s career and not celebrating it with our fans in some special way. So we’ve decided to do one last little run with it. Smaller shows, beautiful theaters…and we’re not calling it a tour, by the way. Each night will be a little event, or as we said just a few seconds ago, a celebration. As we acknowledge the past few years (and more) of everything we’ve been through together, we’re also looking forward together at all there is to come.

Another way we want to celebrate our journey thus far, is to bring out a band who helped us in our most humble, playing 500 beats faster than we should, terrible hair, beginning. We might’ve never gained any traction on the road had they not allowed us on their tour almost exactly 10 years ago. So if you’re coming to one of these shows make sure to get there early for Copeland.

Lastly, thank you to anyone and everyone who made this album a milestone in Paramore’s career and in each of our lives. We started this journey 3 years ago, desperate for any sort of future at all! Now we are standing taller, more confident, knowing that we are the ones who write our own future. This means you too.

Hayley, Jeremy & Taylor

Paramore played shows across the US between April 27th to May 25th. After that, it was time for them to start thinking about the next album.

“Bad Blood” Music Video

On May 8, 2015, Taylor Swift announced that Hayley Williams would appear in the music video for her fourth 1989 single, “Bad Blood.” Hayley was set to play The Crimson Curse:

The music video premiered on May 17th at the Billboard Awards.

“Vicious Love”

Hayley Williams has been with her then-fiancé Chad Gilbert, the lead guitarist for New Found Glory, since 2008. It was only natural that, after seven years together, they would finally collaborate musically.

New Found Glory released their eighth album, Resurrection, in October 2014. In 2015, they decided to re-release it and re-record the song “Vicious Love,” making it a duet. Hayley ended up singing on the New Found Glory song “Vicious Love.” Cyrus Bolooki, the drummer for New Found Glory, explained how this came about:

You probably won’t believe this, but it was actually HER idea. The story goes something like this:

We were coming up with ideas for the re-release, and we decided that we wanted to look into having a female singer re-record vocals on “Vicious Love” to make it a duet with Jordan, and Ian, our bass player, had really been pushing for us to try and get in contact with Kacey Musgraves, a country singer who is actually a NFG fan. I guess Hayley knows her or was going to be our way to get in contact with her, so Chad asked Hayley to help out, and upon hearing of our plans, Hayley asked why we weren’t asking her to sing on it, and that she wanted to do it herself. We hadn’t really thought of that idea, especially if it would have seemed like we were pressuring her to do it because of her relationship to Chad and our band, but Hayley insisted that she wanted to do it. So, of course, we weren’t going to say no to that! And the rest is history…

The new version of “Vicious Love” and its music video were released on July 22, 2015:

The re-release of the album, Resurrection: Ascension came out on October 9, 2015. You can get “Vicious Love” or the whole album on iTunes.

Jeremy Leaves the Band

On December 14, 2015, some sad news came to the Paramore world: Their trio is down to two. After Josh and Zac Farro left the band in 2010, Paramore released their self-titled album in 2013 as a trio. Now, five years later, bassist Jeremy Davis decided to part ways as well. You can read the full statement below:

Hayley is now the only remaining original member of Paramore since their formation in 2004. Taylor York, however, has been an official part of the band since 2007.

Writing New Music

Though the remaining members of Paramore were quiet about new music, Hayley did confirm on Twitter that she and Taylor were indeed in the process of writing:

Hayley Gets Married

Around Christmas 2014, Hayley and her longtime boyfriend Chad Gilbert (of New Found Glory) announced their engagement. After more than a year to plan, the couple married on February 20, 2016 in a small ceremony at the Franklin Theatre in Franklin, Tennessee.

goodDYEyoung

Throughout her career with Paramore, Hayley has always been known for her vibrant and ever-changing hair colors. It’s only fitting that she decided to start her own hair dye company. After many months of work, she finally announced goodDYEyoung on March 5, 2015.

Starting April 15th, goodDYEyoung launched with five bold shades: Rock Lobster (fiery red), Blue Ruin (bright blue), Ex-Girl (pink), Steal My Sunshine (yellow), and Riot! (bold orange). Each color is priced at $14. All are available at the official goodDYEyoung website.

PARAHOY Cruise Part II

After a successful cruise in early 2014, Paramore invited fans to embark on the 2nd voyage of PARAHOY in early 2016. The Norwegian Pearl was set to sail from Saturday, March 5th to Wednesday, March 9th from Miami, Florida to Cozumel, Mexico and back. Paramore was joined by Chvrches, X Ambassadors, Lights, New Found Glory, mewithoutYou, and Vacationer.

Paramore Enters the Studio

After the PARAHOY cruise ended, Hayley and Taylor were ready to begin working on Paramore’s 5th album. They kept fans in the loop with regular tweets from the studio.

In early June, Paramore shared a photo featuring none other than ex-Paramore drummer, Zac Farro! Is he going to write or play any songs on the new music?

CHVRCHES featuring Hayley Williams – “Bury It”

On June 9th, the synthpop duo CHVRCHES released a new version of their song, “Bury It,” now featuring vocals from Hayley Williams. The audio was released that day. The single’s animated music video was released a month later on July 11th:

Studio Updates: June – July 2016

Paramore have been working on the new album since March. Hayley and Taylor will likely spend a few more months writing and recording before fans will get to hear new music. Although the album could be out by late 2016, it may be more likely that we’ll get it in 2017. Either way, it will be exciting to hear how Paramore has evolved after more than 3 years and the departure of one of the three band members.
