Hear Green Day’s Riotous “Revolution Radio” From Upcoming Album

After four long years, Green Day finally made their comeback last month with their topical new single, “Bang Bang.” Now, just weeks ahead of their upcoming 12th album, Green Day has released its title track, “Revolution Radio.” It’s a rollicking song for the protestors and rebels fighting against recent issues. If “Bang Bang” was from the enemy’s eyes, “Revolution Radio” gives voice to the rest of us.

As with the first single, “Revolution Radio” describes today’s political and social climate. This time, though, Billie sings from a more relatable perspective (i.e., not the mass shooter found in “Bang Bang”). The song starts with riotous guitars, creating an exotic sound similar to “Peacemaker,” “Extraordinary Girl,” or “Haushinka.” Chugging guitars make it unmistakably Green Day, while Billie’s lyrics attack today’s issues. He sings about the “lost souls who were cheated” and the need to “legalize the truth.” He directs listeners to scream, rebel, and listen. This harkens back to Billie’s recent comment to Rolling Stone about current racial issues:

I think my role is to shut up and listen. A lot of white people should shut up and listen. They really don’t know what the African-American experience truly is. When you have people getting shot in their cars for no reason and being put in fucking jail cells and it’s for profit, we have a serious problem, and the first thing you need to do is get educated. Don’t try to do this, like, “Blue lives matter.” Don’t try to do the “All lives matter.” Just shut up and listen to the experience. And then move forward after that.

“Revolution Radio” comes with a collage-styled lyric video, similar to the one released for “Bang Bang.” Check it out below:
